Mai Khao Beach: Where the beach and planes meet in one frame.

Among the top attractions in Phuket, this beautiful beach is a favorite for tourists snapping photos of planes flying low overhead. Mai Khao Beach is a must-visit for those seeking that perfect beach-and-plane shot.

The Tradition of Sea Cicada Hunting at Phuket’s Mai Khao Beach

Sea cicadas have been a part of Mai Khao Beach for a long time. In the past, the beach was full of sea cicadas and sea turtles, which came to lay eggs. Today, sea turtles are rare, but sea cicadas can still be found. The decline of sea cicadas on many beaches is due to the growth of shops and communities. These creatures are very sensitive and avoid disturbed areas. At Mai Khao Beach, they are still found in large numbers because the coarse sand helps them come ashore. As the tide recedes, they burrow about a foot deep into the sand, leaving small bubbles. Dig down, and you’ll see a sea cicada smiling up at you

The Pine Tree Tunnel

The Pine Tunnel, situated at Mai Khao Beach, is a beautiful area where tall, grand pine trees arch towards each other, creating a tunnel-like effect. These trees offer great shade and a cool spot for afternoon picnics. Visitors can sit and feel the refreshing sea breeze. The tranquility and serene ambiance make it a favored, uncrowded location, ideal for photography or simply unwinding. As evening falls, the site also provides a stunning view of the sunset.
